CV Disaster: People missing opportunities

It  is very common for job seekers to say "there are no Jobs".
I have noticed that even when there are jobs, there are no qualified people or the qualified people have a poor way of showcasing their skills.

Recently, there was a vacancy for an accountant in the organization I work. I reached out to small social media groups that I belonged to, requesting for qualified CVs, stating the requirement for the job and channel of submission. I made the description very brief such that any person that received it could copy and paste the opportunity easily for a friend of family.

The kind of CVs received as a result of this publicity prompted me to write this.

Upon evaluation of the CVs , about 80% of them was not engaging and had nothing to do with the job requirement, 19%  had poor organization and typographical errors and 1% was close to the picture perfect CV.

Analysing this situation, we have a genuine need for positions to be filled and we have not been able to coallate qualified candidate because we have not received good number of CV that potrays the right qualifications. The implication of the result is that the recruitment process will not be rigorous because there are very limited number of qualified candidates and the aim of the process would be defeated because we wanted a competitive interview that would give equal opportunity to a larger number of qualified candidates, considering the number of positions to be filled. Therefore, this position is still open.

Lesson learnt for me is that I have to understand the social media groups I belong and know the best way to disseminate certain information.

On a final note, I am using to medium to notify fresh graduates, with about 2 to 3 years of expereience including NYSC and internship, that The Career Portfoilio will be rolling out a free CV writing for about the first 10 people. The process of selection would be communicated soon.
For the time being, we will be posting the subject job vacancy, soon.

I wish you a brighter future 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
